Impact Concussion Testing
ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is the gold standard of computerized concussion evaluation. ImPACT allows our team to establish a neurocognitive baseline so that, in the case of a concussion, we can objectively evaluate a concussed athlete’s post-injury condition and track recovery for safe return to play.
The ImPACT test evaluates brain function areas; memory, reaction time, processing speed and concentration. If a head injury occurs a second test is taken to compare to the pre-season test to determine the severity of the injury. From there, a sports medicine physician assesses signs and symptoms and gives a neurological exam to clear an athlete for return to active participation.
Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
Advanced training in the use of ultrasound imaging allows primary care sports medicine specialists to perform joint and soft-tissue injections more accurately and with less patient discomfort. This precision is particularly useful for patients who are seeking treatment for small and/or very arthritic joints. Ultrasound can also help physicians quickly diagnose sports medicine injuries to bones, ligaments, tendons, muscles and cartilage.
